Considerations for Occupational Therapists in Developing Community-Level Interventions for Youth with High Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

Drug misuse likely contributes to the over 30,000 children in foster care and 24.2% of who have experienced two or more adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Twenty-five percent are living poverty, with nearly half those single-parent households. Among national guidelines preventing ACEs connecting youth positive activities providing family relationship enhancement opportunities. We believe profession occupational therapy can help contribute mental behavioral health workforce a greater capacity than is currently used. Many not afforded opportunity engage novel leisure pursuits that essential for function well-being. Occupational therapists assist creating culture equity by harnessing power play promote self-healing communities.
